Ficus religiosa is the botanical name for peepal. In different languages. this holy plant is known by different names, such as Bodhi in Sanskrit, Piplo in Gujarati, AL or Aryal in Malayalam, and so on. The peepal tree is said to shield humanity from the evil eye and to hold terrible visions at bay. In the Vedas, the holiness of the peepal tree is stated. The peepal tree is renowned for its medicinal importance in addition to its religious significance.
